We have a date!
The departure date for our 2008 Mission Trip to our Connectional Church in
Jablone, Czech Republic, is May 22, 2008.
MISSION OUTREACH
Mission programs are conducted in a hands on manner. Going beyond just
financial support, members of the congregation, under the leadership of the
Missions Committee, invest their time and talents in helping to improve our
community at home and abroad.
Foreign missions are supported through our Herman Batt Fund. Monies
have been sent to missionaries in Africa, Cambodia, France and to several Arab
countries. In 2001 a mission team went to Jamaica to build houses, worked with
children and participated in other projects. In 2005 a group worked at the
Methodist Habitat in the Bahamas and in 2006 and again in 2007, traveled to Mississippi and
assisted with the Hurricane Relief Effort.
Thanksgiving week, food baskets are distributed to families
in need. Each Christmas season, we distribute gifts and food baskets to families
through our Mission Tree. Gifts are also delivered to children through the
Angel Tree program.
Community Outreach picnics and dinners are served quarterly to area agencies
and our local neighborhood. Smaller groups serve meals at the Pitino
shelter and at Boulware Mission.
Contributions are made to the following agencies:
Wesley House, Red Bird Mission, Henderson Settlement, Habitat for Humanity,
H.L. Neblett, Owensboro Free Clinic, Camp Loucon, West End and Helen Sears Day
Care Centers, American Indian Field, Center of Hope, Dismas REC,
Lighthouse, Good News Jail Ministry, Campus Crusade, Athletes in Action, and to the Help Office.
