The trip is over, but we've got a lot more pictures to put up, so check back here often. Day 1 (Actually 1 & 2) We spent 24 hours on the bus traveling to where we'll be staying for the next 4 days; Four Winds Community School (website). Thanks to the drive to put Internet connections in every classroom, we are able to get on the net and update these pages. Our Devotional theme for Sunday is "The Crown of Incorruptibility", Scripture Readings: 1 Cor. 9:24-27 & Matt. 5:1-12. Day 2 did not go as planned, first we woke up to pouring down rain, then we find out that there was a miscommunication with our job foreman and we had no work to do. Well, God didn't let that stop him. We spent the morning listening to a Lakota/Dakota tribe member tell us about his tribe and heritage and listen to a Lakota Drum Band perform some native songs. We even learned the Dance of Friendship. By the afternoon the sun had come out, we picnicked for lunch, then came back to the school to clean and prepare gym bleachers for painting. Our Devotional theme for Monday is "The Crown of Suffering", Matt. 27:27-31 & Roman 8:28-39. Day 3 was much more productive. After breakfast we broke up into several groups and went different directions. One group stayed at the school and continued the prep work for painting the bleachers. Other groups went to people's homes and did various cleaning and repair jobs. But the day was not all work, we found time to relax and have some fun. Thanks to the Business Manager for the local school district we got discounted tickets to the movies. Our Devotional theme for Tuesday is "The Crown of Life", James 1:2-12 & Rev. 3:7-13. Day 4, we're into the swing of things, people knew where they were going and what they were doing. The work was very similar to the day before, removing wet drywall, painting bleachers and helping with construction around the school. The group is really becoming a team, we're having great fun developing new relationships and strengthening old ones. Our Devotional theme for Wednesday is "The Crown of Righteousness", 2 Timothy 1:8 and Hebrews 12:7-13. Day 5; We only worked until about 1:00pm, most stayed at the school, policing the construction area and painting. The other group went back to a house to finish painting the kitchen. In the afternoon we toured a plant that made armor for the military. After dinner the local tribe elders honored us with a traditional honor drum song and presented us with gifts including a beautiful handmade quilt. Later we were invited swimming at the casino. This is the last update, we leave for home tomorrow at 5am with a stopover at the Mall of America. See you soon...
